Catherine Starr is a nationally and internationally recognized rowing coach with a distinguished record of developing high-performance athletes and championship crews. Catherine Starr is a nationally and internationally recognized rowing coach with a distinguished record of developing high-performance athletes and championship crews. With over 20 years of experience in competitive rowing and coaching, Catherine brings a deep knowledge of the sport, a passion for youth development, and a results-driven approach grounded in teamwork, discipline, and character.

A former U.S. National Team member and U23 World Champion, Catherine transitioned from elite competition to elite coaching with equal success. Her crews have consistently medaled at regional, national, and international events, including a landmark victory in 2023 at the Henley Royal Regatta, where she coached the first American crew to win the Prince Philip Challenge Trophy.

Catherine took over the reigns of the Narragansett Junior program in fall of 2023. Under her leadership, NBC sent a record number of athletes to USRowing Youth Nationals in both 2024 and 2025, medaled at major regattas including two national championships—in the women's u17 four and youth four. 

Catherine’s coaching is rooted in mentorship. She is deeply committed to creating inclusive, challenging, and supportive environments where young athletes can thrive.

Graham Willoughby

Graham Willoughby is a highly accomplished rowing coach with a strong reputation for developing successful men’s rowing programs. He has led multiple teams to championship titles at the USRowing Youth National Championship along with top finishes at major regattas including the Head of the Charles and the San Diego Crew Classic.

Graham Willoughby is a highly accomplished rowing coach with a strong reputation for developing successful men’s rowing programs. He has led multiple teams to championship titles at the USRowing Youth National Championship along with top finishes at major regattas including the Head of the Charles and the San Diego Crew Classic. 

Graham began his coaching career at Capital Crew in California, then spent several years at Marin Rowing Association, where he built one of the most dominant junior men’s programs in the country. Many of these athletes went on to compete collegiately at top programs.  

He also served as a coach for the U.S. Junior National Team and later joined the coaching staff at Brown University, where he contributed to the success of the men’s rowing program.

In December 2024, Graham joined Narragansett Boat Club where he now focuses on building and leading the club’s junior men’s rowing program.
